Clinical Trial Goal
To find out if the YCWS app works to reduce stress and manage pain for people with SCD compared to standard care
You may be able to join this trial if you:
- Are 18 years old or older
- Have SCD
- Have moderate to severe pain (rate your pain as a 4 out of 10 or higher)
- Use opioid pain medicine to help manage pain from SCD
- Agree to have other standard tests done to see if you can be in the clinical trial
Trial Details
YCWS is a mobile app that provides videos for relaxation and distraction exercises as well as support.
Everyone in this trial will get pain medicine and standard care to treat the SCD or any complications associated with SCD.
In this trial, you’ll be randomized to 1 of 2 groups. Once you’re randomized, you’ll be told what group you’re in:
- Group 1 – standard care
- Group 2 – Standard care plus YCWS app
Randomized means doctors will use a computer to assign you to either group. A computer assigns you by chance, like flipping a coin or drawing a name out of a hat. You, your doctor or the clinical trial doctor won’t have any control over which group you’ll be assigned. This means you won’t be able to choose your group.
Everyone in this trial will get standard care and perform self-monitoring of pain, stress and opioid pain medicine use.
If you’re in Group 2, you’ll also have access to the YCWS app which includes videos to help with relaxation and distraction exercises. The app also provides direct support resources.
Everyone will take surveys about their stress for 2 months.
