Clinical Trial Goal
To find out if allogeneic, half-matched BMT, followed by cyclophosphamide, is safe and works well to treat severe aplastic anemia
You may be able to join this trial if you:
- Are 1 – 75 years old
- Have severe aplastic anemia
- Have a family member who is a half match and can be your donor. Your biological parents and children are always a half match for you.
- Have not had a BMT before
- Agree to have other standard tests done to see if you can be in the clinical trial
Trial Details
Before transplant, you’ll get:
- Anti-thymocyte globulin – Given as an intravenous (IV) infusion 1 time each day for 3 days
- Cyclophosphamide – Given as an IV infusion 1 time each day for 2 days
- Fludarabine – Given as an IV infusion 1 time each day for 5 days
- Total body irradiation – A procedure done 1 time, the day before transplant to prepare your body for transplant
On transplant day, blood-forming cells from your donor are given to you through an IV infusion.
After transplant, you’ll get more cyclophosphamide, given as an IV infusion 1 time each day for 2 days. You’ll also get standard treatments to help you get better after transplant and to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
The clinical trial doctors will check your health for 2 years.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved all the drugs used in this trial. Allogeneic, half-matched BMT to treat severe aplastic anemia is new and unproven.
