Clinical Trial Goal


To find out if standard statin drugs are safe and work well to treat CCUS or low-risk MDS

You may be able to join this trial if you:


  • Are 18 years old or older
  • Have one of the folloiwng:
    • CCUS
    • MDS that doctors consider low-risk
  • Have not been treated with a statin drug in the last 1 year. Your doctor can tell you this
  • Have not been treated with a drug to treat the CCYS or MDS like lenalidomide or venetoclax. Your doctor can tell you this]
  • Agree to have other standard tests done to see if you can be in the clinical trial 

Trial Details


Atorvastatin and rosuvastatin are standard statin drugs used to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and cardiac events like stroke. 

In this trial, you’ll be placed in 1 of 2 groups: 
  • Group 1 – Atorvastatin (Lipitor)
  • Group 2 – Rosuvastatin (Crestor)
 
You’ll get treatment in cycles that last xxx. In each cycle, you'll get:
  • Atorvastatin - Group 1 only – A pill that you take by mouth 1 time each day
  • Rosuvastatin - Group 2 only - A pill that you take by mouth 1 time each day

You may continue treatment for up to 1 year. You'll have blood tests to see how well the treatment is working. The clinical trial doctors will check your health for up to 1.5 years. 

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved all of the drugs in this trial to prevent cardiac events. Using them to suppress the progression of blood cancer is new and unproven.
